Vistara, India's newest full-service carrier, flew its two millionth passenger today. Being the fastest growing full-service carrier in India, the airline crossed two million mark in record time. Vistara, which had started its operation on 9 January 2015, took 17 months to achieve this milestone as it was predicted in this blog beforeEarlier it had achieved one million flyers on 23 December 2015 just before completing one year of operation.
While the first million passenger figure was reached in almost twelve months, it took less than six months for the second million as the airline added new capacity as well as increased capacity utilization in the mean time.

Vistara had gradually reduced the time taken to fly four units of 5 lakh passengers. While the airline had achieved its first 5 lakh passengers in 223 days from its launch on 20 August 2015, second 5 lakh passengers in 125 days (348 days from launch) on 23 December 2015, third 5 lakh passengers in 96 days (444 days from launch) on 28 March 2016 (estimated) and finally the fourth 5 lakh passengers in just 79 days (523 days from launch) on 15 June 2016;

And it plans to further increase frequencies to 580 weekly flights in the winter schedule 2016-17 with two more aircraft and one or two new destinations being added in the coming months. The carrier crossed two lakh monthly passenger mark for the first time in May 2016 which is expected to increase further in the coming months. Going by this trend, Vistara is expected to cross three lakh monthly passenger mark in Q4 CY-2016 and overall carry 25 to 30 lakh annual passengers in 2016; Currently the airline holds 2.3% market share as of April 2016 which is expected to remain steady between 2.5 and 3% by the end of year.
